Abstract
A novel folded microstrip patch-type antenna design suitable for radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and mountable on the cigarette carton surfaces is presented. The cigarette carton contains conductive material and significantly affects the radiation properties of the antenna, so identifying cigarette carton is a challenge. For low-cost fabrication, the antenna is printed on a 45um-thick FCCL substrate with a meander microstrip feed. The specific parameters of the antenna were optimized using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The proposed antenna provided a fairly broad bandwidth ( <; -10 dB, 31.6%) for conjugate-matching with a commercial tag chip.
