Abstract :
In this paper, a fast H.264 intra-prediction mode algorithm based on texture characteristic is proposed. Firstly adopt DCT operation on each target block and get the texture direction and variance of the block being coded with the coefficient in frequency domain. And then predict the intra-frame coding mode most accurately with the parameters obtained before. Experiment results show that the PSNR and BER from this algorithm keep in step with that gotten from H.264 reference model-JM8.6, but it speeds up the intra prediction process by 75% on average without sacrificing the picture quality and compression ratio.
