Abstract :
A novel method based on the third-order cumulant algorithm is proposed and verified. The algorithm resolves the time delay estimation deterioration problem induced by simple cross-correlation method in locating abnormal vibrations along pipelines. Both the forward and backward acquisition signals are processed using the third-order self- cumulant and cross-cumulant appraisal, so that Gaussian noise and symmetrical distribution noise can be suppressed. Field test results have validated the method can considerably suppress noise signals and improve the locating resolution of pipeline abnormal vibration events, thus significantly improve the performance of the system.
