Abstract
The Shipborne Wave Recorder (SWR) is a reliable, if not the most accurate, system for measuring waves on the deep sea. In the version described, signals from port and starboard accelerometers and pressure sensors are digitally processed to give a wave height signal that is displayed, logged and spectrally analysed in real time in a standard PC using software developed using the LabWindowsTM development tool. The system design is discussed and initial results are presented. The project to develop this version was commissioned by W.S. Ocean Systems Ltd. as licence holders for the SWR
