Abstract :
Summary form only given. The properties of Cr/sup 2+/:ZnSe, in particular its high thermal conductivity, low excited state absorption (ESA), high emission cross-section and /spl sim/1000 nm broad fluorescence bandwidth give it enormous potential as a material for tunable and ultrashort-pulsed laser sources. This paper presents the results of investigation of spectroscopic as well as laser properties of a Cr/sup 2+/:ZnSe laser, operating in cw, pulsed and actively mode-locked regimes.
