            Abstract :
Summary form only given. Over the last few years the third-order nonlinear optical properties of chalcogenide glasses has received much attention with regard to their ability to be used in ultrafast all-optical switching for optical communication. We report measurements of nonlinear refraction in the GeS/sub 2/ based glasses using the Z-scan method, with 100 fsec pulses at wavelengths 1.3 and 1.5 /spl mu/m.
