Abstract :
This paper presents the implementation of the run length encoder (RLE) coding on the TMS320C50 DSP. It is shown that the component has a particular structure which does closely match that of the algorithm. In addition, it is shown that the manipulation of the basic algorithm to suit the hardware is an important consideration when designing for real time solution. With the current implementation, real time image compression can be achieved when JPEG coding algorithm is used.
