Abstract :
Emerging DoD SATCOM requirements are shifting from single frequency systems toward an integrated telecommunications system. Teleports are a key component of the integrated system. The teleport requirements, functionality, and hardware provided in the article is the result of DISA´s SATCOM Architecture Study in support of the Congressionally requested DoD SATCOM Master Plan and SATCOM Program Review. The Services´ requirements estimates are based on the assumption that fixed site, non-deployed users will be transitioned from SATCOM to fiber in the Defense Information System Network (DISN). SATCOM´s primary role will be to provide the telecommunications link to deployed users. During the next few years, communications requirements need to be formalized and engineering solutions developed to meet the requirements
