Abstract
In this paper, we study the compatibility of operating Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the digital dividend spectrum identified in Australia. The compatibility and co-existence studies done in Europe are reviewed and their implications are studied in an Australian context. Even though the European studies provide some valuable insights on the operation of mobile services in the digital dividend, the differences in the DVB-T transmission frequency range, the DVB-T channel bandwidth and the preferred duplexing arrangement between the two regions prevent a direct deduction of the amount of interference caused by LTE/UMTS transmissions on DVB-T in the adjacent bands. Thus we study the impact of LTE transmission on the DVB-T reception in the boundary of the Australian digital dividend using analytical methods and Monte Carlo simulation.
