Abstract :
Scattering of electromagnetic field from a perfectly electrically conducting circular cylinder buried inside a dielectric half space is studied. A plane wave of known parameters is incident from the half space not containing the cylinder. The electric field of the incident plane wave is parallel to the axis of the cylinder. The electric field integral equation is used to find the currents induced on the cylinder. It is solved numerically using the method of moments. The elements of the impedance matrix have two parts, one is the free space Green´s function and the second part is the Sommerfeld-type integral. The Sommerfeld-type integral is numerically integrated using Filon´s method of integration. The induced currents are then used to find the scattered field in the half-space, which does not contain the cylinder. Results obtained are compared to results previously obtained by approximate methods.
