Abstract
This paper presents some findings and analysis of the effects of multiple Quality of Experience (QoE) parameters in the compression domain. The aim was to investigate best candidate parameters for model development. The Taguchi orthogonal array method was used to achieve this aim by enabling a reduction in the number of trials required in our experiments. This reduction in experimental time also reduced the psychological effects of boredom among the trial candidates. This method also provided us with an analysis technique to identify the most influential parameters as well as least influential ones for QoE. We were also able to find relationships between different parameters. We conclude that Quantization was the most influential parameter in our experiments and optimization of this parameter can ensure better perceptual quality for videos with varied content classes. In addition, H.264 performs well irrespective of bit rate variation but low quantization introduces varied results for varied content classes. We used Fleiss´ Kappa statistic for analyzing the subjective feedback from users and for evaluating its consistency/concordance. PSNR was evaluated per frame per video and the mode value was calculated for a comparison between MOS and PSNR.
