Abstract
In this paper, we present an instrument to identify the behaviour of NiCd and NiMH batteries from the measured values of voltage and temperature during the charge and discharge phases. The instrument represents a useful tool for controlling the battery charge phase through methods based on the increase of the voltage or of the derivative of the temperature with respect to time, avoiding damage due to overcharging. It can also be used to validate new algorithms for detecting the end of the charge
