Abstract :
This paper introduces the design process of complex vehicle surface modeling using CATIA, a multi-platform CAD/CAM/CAE commercial software suite. A new approach to the three-dimensional auto body modeling based on features of two-dimensional three hand-painted views is presented. The model design is based on the geometry characteristic curves of auto bodies, which are obtained from the sketch tracer model pieces in CATIA V5. The segmentation of auto body is discussed and some key technologies involved are considered.
