Abstract :
Some of the methods used to implement a point-to-multipoint digital radio system, designed to provide basic exchange telecommunications radio (BETR) service, are described. The system operates in the 450-MHz band. It consists of a base station and distributed subscriber terminals, which provide telephone service for up to 24 subscribers. The author focuses on some of the key technical areas in the electrical and mechanical design of the base station and subscriber units which impact equipment cost. The analog and digital signal processing used in the design for low-cost system terminals is described
