Abstract
Modern wideband and broadband digital cross-connect systems are being increasingly deployed in fiber networks in the Bell Operating Companies (BOCs). A network controller maximizes the effectiveness of these elements in automating the management and control high capacity digital networks, and the provisioning and service restoration of DS1 and DS3 facilities. Strategies used in providing the above capabilities in a recently deployed network, and associated architectures and interfaces are discussed. The first customer application of AT&T´s DACScan-2000 controller is used to illustrate how these strategies are realized in the BOC environment
