Abstract :
As shown in previous work of Cristea, P. (2003, April - June 2002), symbolic DNA sequences can be converted to digital genomic signals by using a complex (2D) quadrantal representation derived from a tetrahedral (3D) representation of nucleotides. The paper studies the general problem of data representability at various resolutions and applies the results for the case of genomic signals. It is shown that the variation of genomic data along nucleotide sequences, specifically the cumulated and unwrapped phase, can be visualized adequately as simple graphic lines for low and large scales, while for medium scales (thousands to tens of thousands of base pairs) statistical descriptions have to be used.
