Abstract :
Wind Telecomunicazioni S.p.A, one of the most important Italian telecommunications companies started in 2006 its first project finalized on the testing of fuel cell systems for backup power solutions in telecommunications applications. That field-testing was performed in strict collaboration with SGS future s.r.l., an Italian company focused on new advanced technologies for stationary energy supplying through renewable sources and low emission solutions. This article presents the description and the results of the testing procedure that allowed the certification of this technology as a feasible backup solution into Wind plants and also additional testing performed during the following year of working life into the BTS station.
