            Abstract :
Real-time end-to-end performance analysis of packet networks is important for network performance management of future open systems and integrated services. To achieve real-time performance analysis, it is essential to perform the real-time estimation of important parameters. The end-to-end performance analysis with a real-time estimation of some quality of service (QOS) performance parameters is studied on the basis of the ISO/OSI transport layer. A performance reference model for real-time packet network analysis and a real-time estimation model are presented for ISO/OSI performance management. Based on the proposed concept, many other QOS performance parameters (or grade of service parameters) for performance management can be estimated in real-time for existing packet networks (e.g., LAN, MAN, and WAN) and future packet networks based on open systems and integrated services
