Abstract
The business opportunities in after-sales services such as condition based maintenance were noticed by many vendors of process and automation equipment before adequate standards and architectures became available. Consequently, at a client´s premises there are many units of process equipment, software modules and Internet connections that have been installed by different vendors, and this uncoordinated work has created serious interoperability, maintainability and security problems. This paper proposes an open standards-based service architecture for industrial telematics that supports interoperability, software component lifecycle management and secure execution and communication of components in a multi-vendor environment
