Abstract :
This paper describes the mixed-signal behavioral implementation of the 1000BASE-X Physical Layer for gigabit Ethernet. The complete mixed-signal implementation was achieved by using Verilog for the digital parts, SpectreHDL (Spectre Hardware Description Language) for the analog parts and SpectreVerilog for the top-level integration of the mixed-signal design. A top-down design methodology was used in the design process. All the parts of the PHY (physical layer) were realized and verified in the mixed-signal environment, including the PCS (physical coding sublayer) and the PMA (physical medium attachment)
