Abstract :
Aiming to overcome the heavy traffic conditions of low visibility roads, due to uneven altitudes, curve-figured routes, fog or any other factor, the E-a-R (Eye-at-Road) system is proposed in this paper. The design of it encompasses Doppler radars connected to a wireless star LAN, which feed the information to several display units across the road. The latter assist the vehicles in their trip, giving them vital information. Therefore risky acts turn to be safe, as for instance the effort to overtake the preceding slow vehicle. The E-a-R system provides numerous important advantages, among them we may number accident elimination, safe trips, traffic decongestion, trip estimation, pre-travel information etc. The use of optical sensors leads the system to optical engineering and opto-mechatronics.
