  • Abstract
An experimental stereoscopic television system with HDTV facilities which has been developed for basic studies of future broadcasting services is described. A comparison between conventional two-dimensional pictures and stereoscopic ones shows superior picture quality with stereoscopic television. An investigation into the psychological effects of stereoscopic vision shows that a higher-definition television system with a larger screen is necessary to produce adequate psychological effects. A 15 minute stereoscopic program with HDTV equipment was produced and demonstrated by applying these basic studies. The program was well accepted by audiences because of its natural and emotion-evoking images
