Abstract :
The Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC) in Kilhei, Maui can play an important role in Pacific Basin high performance computing and communications (HPCC) activities. MHPCC can be a catalyst for HPCC activities linking Asia Pacific to the Americas. With its affiliation with the University of New Mexico, the MHPCC has active collaboration with the Asian Technology Information Program (ATIP) activities led by Dr. David Kahaner as well as the many connections to Latin and South America which UNM has forged as a “University for the Americas”. The MHPCC has, as its goal, the development of commercial HPC activities in this region. MHPCC is eager to establish itself as a center for technology transfer, information transfer, and economic development in this region. The US DoD role at the MHPCC is focused primarily on R&D efforts in which technology transfer to DoD projects and in cooperation with DoD efforts is sought. Among active projects in developing ties to enhance technology transfer in the Pacific region, MHPCC is establishing, in cooperation with the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), ATIP, and other parties, a Web site dedicated to fostering commercial HPC activities and technology transfer activities. We see the MHPCC as an ideal site to host meetings, workshops and conferences supporting these activities
