Abstract :
We proposed an integration of a local oscillator and an optical microwave generator for a radio-over-fiber (ROF) system. A frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator (FD-OEO) operates not only as a low-phase-noise optical local oscillator, but also as an optical signal generator of optical carrier suppression (OCS) modulation. We experimentally demonstrate up-conversion of a 1.25-Gbps optical data channel in 20 GHz-band on an OCS format. The phase noise for the optical microwave carrier is under -100 dBc/Hz at the 10 kHz offset form the 20 GHz carrier and the up-converted signal can reach over 90 km of single mode fiber without serious dispersion penalty.
