Abstract
The author discusses why and how the DOD-Handbook-287 was developed, the role of industry in its development, what it contains, and when it will be published. He explains why tailoring of DOD-STD-2167A is needed and how to tailor the standard, and he addresses the requirements in DOD-STD-2167A for development of software and for quality evaluations. He describes the role of the software support organization during the acquisition phase in the development of software for mission critical computer resources (MCCR), and how the Air Force Logistics Command performs software support to MCCR. Current projects of the Joint Logistics Commanders´ computer Software Management and Post Deployment Software Support subgroups are briefly discussed
