Abstract :
An admission and congestion control scheme is proposed for large-scale wireless mesh access networks that stabilizes the network under heavy traffic loads within a cooperative and distributed medium access control framework. The scheme utilizes only local information available at the controlling router, and yet guarantees to deliver the data of the admitted user to the destination router unless the user is dropped over the first hop. We first show that the scheme can stabilize the network, and then demonstrate its stability properties through simulations. A high-fidelity and large-scale simulator is created that implements measurement-based models for radio signal propagation and interference calculation, and captures the stochastic network behavior resulting from random traffic arrivals, admission control, and queueing. Simulation results confirm that the scheme indeed stabilizes the network and thus provides stable per-session throughput under heavy traffic loads.
