Abstract :
In a situation where a long shaft, rigidly coupled to a motor, drives a load, the mechanical system may show low damped mechanical resonance. In this case, the torsional vibrations present may cause the wearing of gearboxes and quality deterioration of the working process, as well as the end products. A state controller with a state observer can damp these torsional vibrations. An adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) can be used to approximate a state observer and finally, the whole state controller. This paper compares the two.
