Abstract :
A model of a magnetostrictive generator of ultrasound is considered. The stability and temporal dynamics of the system are analyzed using standard techniques. For a given set of parameters, it is shown that the system has a property called excitability, and the ultrasound is emitted in the form of pulses or spikes. The behaviour is similar to that of neurons, and could be the basis of several applications.
