Abstract :
Load dump protection in 42 V automotive systems can be provided by combining the use of both active control and passive transient voltage suppression devices (TVS). TVS devices currently available for automotive systems are analyzed and evaluated against the newly proposed 42 V bus voltage specifications. A new monolithic TVS device concept based on power MOSFET technology is proposed to meet the new 42 V specifications. Various active control strategies are also discussed in the paper
