Abstract
Efficient management of network traffic is one of the most challenging research areas in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). It becomes even more challenging for human involved and information sensitive MANET applications (e.g., public safety applications). For example, in a MANET-assisted road safety system, witnesses of a road accident may introduce numerous redundant information over the network through their hand-held mobile devices. However, sometimes these generated information are not exactly identical but they can be syntactically or conceptually similar. Therefore, in order to reduce the traffic load in the network, this paper proposes a novel semantic scheme. This semantic scheme identifies the aforementioned semantic similarity and accordingly remove the information redundancy. The proposed scheme is facilitated by employing the well-known Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) algorithm. Simulation results confirm the usefulness of the proposed technique in reduction of similar traffic in the network.
