Abstract :
Summary form only given. With the ever increasing rate of change in “technovations” led by computing technologies, the traditional domains of engineering disciplines are increasingly shifting from vertical domains of specializations and becoming multidisciplinary areas of work. Cross-disciplinary teamwork is the new mantra. The discipline of industrial design with its focus on “user centered design” considers the application of these technologies to products of everyday use for the end users. The Industrial designer forms an important member of such multi-disciplinary product Design and development team amongst leading corporations. Emerging opportunities in the software industry sector have opened doors of opportunities for a new breed of multidisciplinary professionals in domains such as User Experience design, Interactions design, Co-design etc. How has design education remodeled itself to train designers to meet these emergent challenges? The presentation will focus on the emergent models of design education that meet these new challenges.
