Abstract :
The design of a prototype linear permanent magnet machine for a linear reciprocating generator is outlined in this paper, at the end, also the characterisation results are described. It has been built to investigate the energy conversion using long/short stroke linear reciprocating generators. The electromagnetic design is based around analytical field solutions which allow the optimisation of the generator parameters, and is further verified by nonlinear electromagnetic finite-element analysis. Results are presented to verify the design, and to investigate the performance of the machine.
