Abstract
While IT is typically associated with office applications, ERP, or banking, there is a substantial market for IT in a manufacturing context. Process control systems such as those used in the chemical industry incorporate a large number of CotS IT-components. However, due to the rather static architecture of a process plant´s lower level equipment obsolescence becomes a major issue. In this talk, the main problems of IT service for industrial infrastructure (obsolescence, regulations etc.) are described as well as remedies currently applied by ABB..
