Abstract
Recent progress in the domain of interpolation problems for the null and pole structure of nonlinear systems is reviewed. The ultimate goal is the design of stabilizing compensators to optimize performance over a wide operating regime. This requires solving nonlinear analogs of Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation or the related Nehari problems. The authors discuss the notion of null and pole pair and its connection with the theory of realization. They then obtain a time-domain version of these ideas, formulate their nonlinear analogs and discuss nonlinear null/pole interpolation
