Abstract
Dynamic intersatellite links encapsulated in advanced satellite systems bring a new challenge for ARQ performance on a distance-varying end-to-end (DVE) connection routed in the sky. We address the impacts of DVE connections on the performance of selective repeat (SR) ARQ and propose an enhanced SR ARQ protocol named adaptive timer SR (ATSR) protocol, to work efficiently and robustly on dynamic DVE connections. By means of simulation, average packet transfer delay and link efficiency of the proposed protocol have been studied with respect to the data generation rate, window size, buffer size and retransmission (RT) timer. The results are discussed and compared to those of the SR protocol in both changing-distance and fixed-distance connections. Our investigation shows that the ATSR protocol can offer higher efficiency than the SR on DVE connections without much added complexity than the conventional SR ARQ protocol
