Abstract :
Quasi-optical mixers comprised of planar annular slot antennas with integrated niobium hot-electron bolometers have been developed for imaging applications at 585 GHz. The embedding impedance presented to the bolometer is analyzed using the induced EMF method and extends the analysis presented by Tong and Blundell (1994) by including the contribution of the antenna feed. In addition, the ray-tracing approach described by Filipovic et al. (1993) has been applied to determine the far-field antenna pattern of the annular slot mounted to a high-resistivity silicon lens. The integrated quasi-optical bolometer is a prototype design for a planar imaging array and details of the EMF analysis and preliminary receiver measurements are presented in this work.
