Abstract :
The cathode voltage drop is considered to be a minimum one on a vacuum arc gap. It is not so in the conditions of competition of a high-current vacuum arc gap and a semiconductor switch starting to operate in parallel after a certain time of arc burning. It was found that such conditions forces arc to burn at lower voltages down to ionization potential of atoms of the cathode material.
