Abstract :
Improvements in motor protection and design require knowledge of the thermal effects produced in a motor when it is operating under normal and abnormal conditions. This paper describes a series of experimental tests that were conducted on a 4 kW total enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) three-phase induction motor. The tests were carried out when the motor is supplied by both voltage source inverter and sinusoidal voltage source, considering the influence of the ventilation. A comprehensive picture of steady-state and transient temperatures of both stator and rotor is presented.
