Abstract :
The status of wavelength-tunable semiconductor lasers, crucial optical devices for multichannel coherent optical communications, is reviewed. The wavelength tuning characteristics of multielectrode distributed feedback lasers, multielectrode distributed Bragg reflector lasers, and tunable twin-guide lasers are described. Wavelength tuning by carrier injection and multiwavelength packet switching are discussed
