Abstract :
Blind channel estimation (BCE) and equalization have recently attracted a great deal of attention due to their potential application in e.g. mobile communications and digital TV systems. It also arises in the presence of frequency selective fading, when training (reference/pilot) symbols are unavailable. In this paper we analyze the performances of a 1/3 rate turbo coding (TC) and a serial concatenated convolutional coding (SCCC) scheme of various frame lengths with two types of second order statistical linear predictive BCE techniques. The first technique uses the properties of companion matrices (PCM) while the second uses the matrix outer product decomposition (MOPD) technique. The object of this contribution is to investigate the performances of the coded scheme with these two types of BCE algorithms in order to characterize a possible and realistic scenario. The channel adopted here is a frequency selective SIMO FIR system. The results show that the coded schemes using the PCM outperformed the scheme using the MOPD by as much as 7dB.
