Abstract
Traffic reason handover is a functionality that distributes the traffic out over the network according to the traffic load. This can decrease the blocking and thus increase the quality of service (QoS). Its potential gain is analytically calculated and network simulations are performed to evaluate the performance. It is shown that the capacity gain from traffic reason handover is depending on the size of the cell overlap, the number of channels per cell and on how uniform the traffic is spread geographically over the network. Simulations show that even in a situation with uniformly distributed traffic, which is the worst case situation, the use of traffic reason handover decreases the blocking
