Abstract
The technology of ultra wideband (UWB) spectrum is in a real expansion. One of the most promising applications is the See-Through-Wall (STW) imaging radar system for civilian and military use. The STW is based on the transmission and reception of UWB pulses in the time domain using synthetic aperture radar (SAR). A low-cost standalone real-time UWB STW radar system with customized and off-the-shelf components has been developed. The developed system is an affordable practical platform for, not only STW application, but also related UWB applications such as precise indoor localization. This paper is concerned with the implementation of this real-time STW system, and especially addresses the design of an efficient high-performance UWB data acquisition subsystem based on FPGSs.
