Abstract :
`Wau´ is another name for Malay traditional kite in Malaysia. Almost every state in Malaysia has his own traditional `wau´ with difference pattern and design. Now, traditional kites are not as popular as they were before, that occasionally played as recreational games and activities. The purpose of this research is to produce a brand new traditional kite that is rather realistic throughout the innovations toward the patterns and its structure in competing with loads of commercial kites that are common, cheaper and with no traditional values. The methodology of this research was experimental approach that based on the fine art studio work. The usage of printmaking technology and the help of computer applications could produce similar patterns of new traditional kites´ in a large quantity. Moreover, the structure of new traditional kite´s frame is designed in ways that could be easier to be attached, assembled and maintained. With hopes that, these new wau can contribute a little or less to the sustainability of heritage of traditional applied art for today´s and next generation.
