Abstract
We present the design strategies of a client-server distributed multimedia presentation system that can flexibly support streaming continuous media data, in real-time, across the Internet. In particular, we focus on the real-time buffer management and end-to-end data transmission. We present an effective and practical buffer management technique to address network delays and misordering of arriving data at the client side. We also develop a novel end-to-end transmission control protocol which can guarantee the availability and timeliness of data as demanded
