Abstract
This paper presents a method of skeletonization for high resolution images. The proposed method is based on Delaunay triangulation to segment a shape into triangular mesh. The triangles are modified and filtered. Internal edges are rearranged such that the edge vertexes become smoothed local symmetry in the shape. Symmetric points are extracted to be skeletal junctures. They are interpolated by piecewise Bezier interpolation to form the skeletal description of a shape. Experimental results have demonstrated that the algorithm can extract smooth skeleton. The algorithm was also compared with other methods. Result has shown that the proposed method has high computational efficiency and superior performance.
