Abstract :
The use of digital video coding and the error correction technique are effective ways to reduce the size of portable terminals for satellite news gathering (SNG) services. To meet the demand for international SNG services, the authors propose a system configuration applicable to multi-beam operation assuming an INTELSAT satellite. They also propose a variable information and FEC coding rate control scheme, which selects an appropriate set of information and coding rate, for a monitored link condition, to achieve a high link availability. A link monitoring method for the control is discussed by using a developed experimental SNG transmission system, and its precise link monitoring function is confirmed
