Abstract :
The author describes an enhanced LQ (linear quadratic) controller and its use in an adaptive self-tuning control algorithm. In cases where rapid swings in control might otherwise occur, weighting factors in the enhanced controller can be adjusted to obtain smoother control. The benefits of using the enhanced LQ controller are demonstrated by results from a multimachine power system simulation
