Abstract :
Decolorization of azo dye Reactive Black 5 (RB5) in an aqueous solution was investigated using Fe-Clamshell as heterogeneous catalyst. Preliminary study shows acid activated Fe-Clamshell has better activity to decolorize RB5 compared to the catalyst without acid activation. The best catalyst was obtained at 0.6% iron ions loading on clamshell whereas the optimized reaction conditions were achieved at 1.5 g/l catalyst dosage, initial pH of 2 and 8 mM of initial H2O2 concentration. Under these conditions, 99% decolorization efficiency was obtained within 180 min of reaction time. The findings indicate that acid activated Fe-Clamshell has high potential as heterogeneous catalyst for decolorization of RB5 in aqueous solution.
