Abstract :
Context Sensitive Design (CSD) means to take the project development and geometric design into consideration together, reduce the influence of highway project to its context, such as environment, economy, historical locations, communities, landscape and so on. Changsha to Jishou (Chang-Ji) freeway is one section of Changsha to Chongqing freeway, which is one of the eight big west channels as planned in China. It passes through two cities of Changde and Huaihua and one autonomous region of Xianxi in western Hunan Province, along which the cultural heritage and the natural resource are rich, and the landscape environment is exquisite. This paper carries on a basis of massive investigations and analysis on cultural heritage and natural environment along the route of Chang-Ji freeway. By using the CSD method, considering safety, availability and sensitive context, the proposal optimization of route design is put forward. At last, the paper introduces the practice effect of one section of the freeway.
