Abstract :
An overview of expert system technology is presented, and the telecommunications trends toward functional and end-user diversity of operation systems (OSs), trends in rule-based languages, and the solving of diversity problems with rule-based technology are discussed. It is shown that expert system technology can not only address expert tasks but also serve as a convenient implementation mechanism for complex tasks. Examples from the SWITCH provisioning system developed by Bellcore are provided
